INTRODUCTION

Finasteride is a 5-alpha-reductase inhibitor that inhibits the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT is a known adverse-reaction in most body tissues, including the skin, hair follicles, and prostate. It is believed that DHT binds to the receptors in the prostate and bladder neck, inhibiting prostatic tissue synthesis and causing the prostate to shrink. Finasteride inhibits the conversion of testosterone to DHT androgenic (androgenic) characteristics. Finasteride is a 5-alpha-reductase inhibitor that is chemically different from the other 5-alpha-reductase inhibitors. It was discovered in 1961 by Ghez and Fuszmyr. In clinical practice, 5-alpha-reductase inhibitors are considered the standard of care in the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) and for the treatment of male pattern baldness (androgenic alopecia). However, as with all medications, the use of 5-alpha-reductase inhibitors in combination with a 5-alpha-reductase inhibitor is associated with a decrease in efficacy of the drug. In addition to the above-mentioned side effects, finasteride also has a low rate of toxicity to the body as a result of its interaction with other 5-alpha-reductase inhibitors. This effect is more evident with finasteride than with its other 2 non-5-alpha-reductase inhibitors (e.g., androstenedione, androstenedione, androstane pregn-2,17beta-diol). This has been reported in detail in several reports involving human studies. It is therefore important to consider the use of finasteride in combination with a 5-alpha-reductase inhibitor for a better patient experience. In this article, we will compare the results obtained with the combined use of finasteride and a 5-alpha-reductase inhibitor.

METHODS

This is a prospective clinical study. The study was conducted in compliance with the Declaration of Helsinki (the International Conference on Harmonization (ICH) Good Clinical Practice and Good Clinical Practice guidelines). The study protocol was approved by the Ethics Committee of our institution. This study was performed as a part of a clinical trial conducted between January 2017 and December 2017 in which patients with BPH, male pattern baldness, or prostate cancer were selected according to the American Urological Association (AUA) and the International Prostate Cancer Index (IPCIS) guidelines. Informed consent was obtained from all patients included in the study. This study was conducted in accordance with the ethical principles of the Declaration of Helsinki.

The study population consisted of all patients who received finasteride at a dosage of 5-alpha-reductase inhibitor. Patients were excluded if they had received other 5-alpha-reductase inhibitors (e.g., alopecia areata, prostate cancer, glaucoma, or other type of benign prostate enlargement) and any of the following: an active or history of hypertension, diabetes mellitus, hypothyroidism, hypercholesterolemia, a history of a myocardial infarction, coronary heart disease, stroke, or recent history of prostate cancer; a history of a history of or a family history of prostate cancer; the following: an active or active androgenic condition, a history of prostate cancer, or a history of prostate cancer; a history of a history of high blood pressure; any of the following: an active or history of an enlarged prostate; any of the following: a history of liver disease; a history of diabetes; a history of prostate cancer; or a history of a history of high blood pressure.

Finasteride was also used as a comparator drug in this study. The study was conducted in compliance with the principles of the Declaration of Helsinki. The study was approved by the Ethics Committee of our institution. The study was conducted in compliance with the ethical principles of the Declaration of Helsinki.

RESULTS

Of the 546 men included, 240 (92.6%) were diagnosed with prostate cancer. The mean age was 51.6 (± 17.4) years and the median follow-up was 36 months (range: 3 to 63 months).

How does propecia work?

The active ingredient in Propecia is Finasteride 1mg. The main ingredient is Finasteride 1mg, which contains the same active ingredient as the active ingredient in the hair loss medication Finasteride. This means that the active ingredient is absorbed into your bloodstream and causes hair growth. Finasteride belongs to a class of drugs called 5-alpha reductase inhibitors. Finasteride works by blocking the enzyme that converts testosterone into DHT (dihydrotestosterone). DHT is a hormone that causes hair loss in men. However, the drug is not used for treating hair loss, as Finasteride does not affect the production of testosterone. Finasteride is available in the form of tablets, and the active ingredient in the medicine is available as a liquid. The medication is usually taken once a day, and the dose is decided by a doctor. The dosage is taken by mouth and is usually taken 1 to 2 times a day. The medicine is also available over the counter and has no side effects.
